Amy Alderson
Hi, I am Amy Alderson and I’m a Senior at Webster University in St. Louis. I graduated from Jefferson College with my Associates degree in Liberal Arts and transferred to Webster as a photography major in the School of Communications to pursue my Bachelors degree. Even though this fall is my second semester as a Senior (third semester as a Webster Gorlok), I don’t anticipate to graduate until the fall of 2012. I’m ok with being a “Super Senior” because I really enjoy the campus and the photo classes.
Things outside of school that I enjoy doing are taking lots of pictures and doing fun things with them in Photoshop, listening to music (Maroon 5, Phil Collins and anything 80s are among my favorites), SCUBA diving whenever I get the chance to be near water, hanging out with my super cool friends, making handmade cards for friends and family and loving on my cute little Dachshund, Harley.
I am taking the Scotland class because I know it will be an adventure. I want to do as much traveling as I can before I graduate and have to get a “real” job. After the Scotland trip ends, I will be heading straight for Geneva, Switzerland to study abroad for four months. I don’t know who the “broad” is I will be studying, but I’m sure she will be interesting!
When I return to the states, I hope to finish my schooling at Webster and graduate with a job in photography. I’m not entirely sure what type of photography work I will be doing. I like the idea of food or product photography for advertising. I also may decide to do photojournalistic work because I’ve been told that my work looks “photojournalistic-y.” I also hope to continue doing freelance for weddings, events and portraits. I also love to do macro and abstract work for my personal portfolio. I would also like to be a photography teacher later on in life.

Bridjes O'Neil
Most would agree that I was an unusual child because children do not watch investigative news reports on Dateline NBC. This is when I decided to pursue a career in Journalism. My name is Bridjes O'Neil. I am a Broadcast Journalism student at Webster University in St. Louis, MO. My objective after graduation is to obtain a career as a multimedia news reporter and anchor.
My inspirations in journalism include minorities who have excelled in this field. Robin Meade influences me the most because she has overcome past bouts of anxiety. Go, figure! Are you kidding me there was a news personality who suffered from anxiety? Yes! It is possible because I still suffer from social anxiety. People have tried to persuade me to choose another career path. The question is: how can you walk away from something you feel that you were meant to do?
Traveling is one of my greatest passions. This will be my first time overseas outside U.S. territory. This trip to Scotland will open doors for me. Linda Williams' Travel Journalism class is an opportunity of a lifetime.

Adventure is one of my favorite words because I view life as one amazing and fascinating adventure! I come from a big crazy family; I have three brothers and two sisters. I am the youngest and family means everything to me. Music, dance, and movies are my biggest passions in life. I love all types of music and going to concerts is my favorite pastime.
Sometimes I can be a bit indecisive, I originally started college as a Marine Biology major at Southeast Missouri State University but quickly realized that was not the path for me. Currently I am a junior at the marvelous Webster University where I major in Broadcast Journalism with a minor in Media Communications. When I switched majors I found out about the incredible offer to study in Scotland for two weeks and immediately jumped at the opportunity. I am super excited to see what Scotland has to offer and even more excited to see the music world from they’re perspective. In the upcoming spring semester I will study abroad in London at Webster’s American campus; Regents. While studying in London I hope to not only explore all of England but travel to other nearby countries.
Once I graduate I hope to work with music, possibly being a reporter for a magazine, TV station, or radio station. Hopefully I can share my love and broaden other’s interest in music. I hope to continue traveling, discovering new bands and talent, and to infuse people from all around with music.

This is my last semester before I graduate with a bachelor degree in interactive media and two minors in photography and web development. I’m just finishing up my internship at an advertising agency, Momentum World Wide, where I worked as a digital developer intern. Once this is finished, I will be ready to take on the next big journey of traveling to Scotland for two weeks with a fun class and the amazing Linda Williams! This will be great thrilling experience, because it will be the first time I have ever been out of the country and flown in an airplane.
This class will complete my photo minor, and I don’t think I could end it any better. I’m really not picky about what I take photos of, but some of my favorite things to shoot are nature, landscapes, and macro, and abstract subjects. To me, working with my photos on the computer can be just as fun as taking them.
What I’m looking forward to getting from this class is the new experiences, great life long memories, and some nice photography portfolio pieces.

Before coming to Webster University, I attended St. Louis Community College. I received an Associates degree in Mass Communications. I transferred to Webster University. This past May I graduated with a Bachelors degree in Broadcast Journalism. I will once again be returning to Webster University this fall to obtain my Masters degree in Media Communications.
I jumped at the opportunity to take this travel journalism class. Traveling is something that I want to do a lot of. This will be my first time out of the country and I’m looking forward to reporting our overseas experience.
I am a St. Louis native who wants to see the world. I have enjoyed every step of my journey at Webster University. Doors have been opened that I couldn’t have imagined. Here goes another one. Let’s walk through it, shall we?

Akira Komatsu
I am a senior student at Webster University, and study global journalism.
My surname literally means “pretty small pine tree”. I am from Kyoto, Japan. My home city, situated about 360 miles southwest of Tokyo, is an ancient
capital of Japan from 794 until 1868. Because of this, Kyoto is the center of Japanese
culture and tradition. Kyoto is the best place to understand the heart of culture and tradition of Japan. I am very proud of being from Kyoto.
I came to St. Louis three years ago to realize my long-cherished dream to study abroad in the United States. I have been passionate about American cultural diversity. My first visit to the States many years ago has affected my life in many ways. What I have been trying to do is to know much about journalism that has great influence on our lives. Also I want to master English.
Both journalism and English are the tools through which I will challenge in the world.
I like traveling abroad very much, and have visited a lot of countries in the world. I want to cover 100 nations, and I hope that my traveling purpose will be realized within about five years. I have visited 88 countries so far.
I prefer studying to working, and quit working in 2002 after working more than 30 years at Japan’s major telecommunications company.
Studying keeps me young, active , and energetic both spiritually and physically. I have been enjoying studying and living in the United States very much.

At Webster University, I’m an Academic Advisor and Adjunct Professor in the School of Communications. On this trip, I’m the tour guide, driver, and teacher as we visit Scotland to study travel journalism. Scotland is close to my heart and I want to share it with these six wonderful students who are coming with me.
The Isle of Arran is where my mother grew up. Her mother was a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse in the small village of Sliddery. My mother met my father, "The American", in college in Glasgow. His parents had emigrated to the U.S. from Shotts, Scotland.
My background is in television news where I was a producer and field reporter for many years. I hope that the students come away from this experience with a lifelong love of journalism – and Scotland!
(No, I'm not planning on hitchhiking through Scotland. I had a small problem that resulted in a big thumb.)
